I was sitting in church this morning
taking notes on what the preacher said,
and my grandson was sitting beside me
drawing pictures, from out of his head.

He drew a picture of baby Jesus
and one on the cross where he died,
he drew people all gathered around them
as I watched him my heart filled with pride.

He was sitting so still and so quiet
and not even making a sound,
I was mesmerized by his drawings
and I thought it to be quite profound.

Then all of a sudden it happened
neither one of us could understand,
his mother grabbed his pen and paper away,
cause he’d gotten some ink on his hand.

As his tear filled eyes looked up at me,
I was feeling my temperature rise.
His mother can’t recognize the blessing,
all she sees is ‘a mess’ in her eyes.

I know it’s hard being a mother,
we both see from a different side,
but if I don’t understand her reasoning
that’s where grandma and mother collide.

Though the art itself is not a master piece except to me...........the message is...

I asked Austin (my grandson) what was he drawing at the top of the picture.

He told me what everything was.......
I numbered them so you would know where he pointed.

#1 He said this is baby Jesus in the manger......when he was born.

#2 This is Jesus teaching the people....there was alot of people he said.

#3 This is Jesus dieing on the cross for our sins.....maw maw. (that's what he calls me)

#4 This is Jesus coming out of the tomb,

#5 And he said I was drawing the clouds and I was going to draw Jesus was going up in heaven,
and I was going to draw people watching him.

I wrote the poem because I was very angry at my daughter for taking away his paper and pen.
but she hadn't noticed the drawing all she saw was that he had ink on his hands and her shirt.
I explained later.......see my grandson in left handed and so am I.
It is hard for a left handed person to draw and not rub their hand across the paper to draw the other side.
So that's how he got ink on he hand.
The difference in a grandmother and a mother is that we as grandmother don't have to be the mother
there for we see past the mess to the blessings.

As my friend Rene put it.......
."We do and/or will see things so differently through a grandma's eyes. . .hmmm. . .

you've given me much cause to ponder. ..and to remember to look beyond. . .for what appears to be chaotic or messy. . .is often the rainbow in disguise."
